Grayson, my grandson, is a sweet, (( almost )) 9 year old boy who suffered a hypoxic event at birth. His injury was so significant that the neurologist in the NICU predicted that he would never eat or breathe on his own, that he wouldn’t gain the cognition to identify even his parents, and that he would remain dependent on medicines and life sustaining machines his entire life. After his one month stay in the NICU, he came home with a g-tube but without any machines - quickly proving to everyone (especially his neurologist) that miracles DO happen and that he has a lot of fight to give!
Through a journey of many out of pocket therapies and treatments and insurance covered care, Grayson is SO full of life! He continues to be motivated to progress and strongly desires more independence. Keith and Alicia are determined to continue providing a way forward for him. His most recent treatment of stem cells paired with intensive therapy sessions has shown to be so effective that we need to find a way to allow him to access more of these.
At the same time, however, Grayson is already 50 pounds and 4 feet tall making safe transfer difficult and resulting in a physical toll on his body. After consulting experts in both the medical and modified vehicle fields, they have been advised that a wheelchair accessible van is what is needed for their family. This is unexpected and they were not prepared financially for this expense.
They are working hard to find grants and financial resources to meet this need, but we are asking our community to help make it happen. We just need to find 1,000 people willing to give $50. What we’re hoping is that you will be willing to give $50 and ask 10 of your friends who will then ask 10 of their friends and so on. If we do, this can happen overnight!
