In Memory of Kim Hoang
It is incredibly difficult to find the words to write this.
Kim Hoang was my best friend.
He was someone I was fortunate enough to share so much of my life with. We built businesses together, faced challenges together, celebrated successes together, and through all of it, our friendship became something that went far beyond work.
Kim was the kind of person who became part of your life in a way you never imagined losing.
And now, tragically and far too soon, he is gone.
Kim passed away unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident, leaving behind his wife, Muriel, and their 13 year old son, Isaac.
Before anything else, I want people to know who Kim was.
Kim was loyal. He was driven. He was incredibly intelligent and hardworking. He had a way of bringing people together and making people believe in what was possible. He cared deeply about the people around him and was always willing to help, whether it was a business problem, a personal challenge, or simply being there when someone needed a friend.
Kim and I spent years building NextDeavor together. What started as a business became a huge part of both of our lives, and some of the most meaningful memories I have with Kim came from that journey.
We experienced the highs and lows that come with building something from the ground up. We had difficult conversations, ridiculous conversations, long nights, big wins, setbacks, laughter, and countless moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
But we also had so many incredible adventures together.
From getting stuck underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and having US boat come rescue us, to taking his boat “Off the Hook” down the coast all the way to San Diego with its own set backs, we always seemed to find ourselves in an adventure.
And one of the things that makes me smile most is thinking about your most recent passion, pickleball, and how much you loved playing with your son and your wife.
Those are the memories I will hold onto.
But Kim’s legacy is not the companies he helped build.
It is the people.
It is the friendships he made.
It is the people he mentored.
It is the opportunities he helped create.
It is the lives he touched.
And most importantly, it is his family.
Kim was a husband to Muriel.
He was a father to Isaac.
He was a son, brother, friend, mentor, and someone who meant something different to so many people.
His passing leaves an enormous hole in the lives of everyone who knew him, but especially in the lives of Muriel and Isaac. No family should ever have to experience this kind of loss, especially so suddenly.
While nothing can take away the pain of losing Kim, we can come together to make sure Muriel and Isaac are surrounded by the love, support, and community that Kim built throughout his life.
This fundraiser has been created to help Muriel and Isaac navigate the immediate and long term financial challenges that come with such an unimaginable loss. Contributions will help with funeral and memorial expenses, household and family needs, and provide some financial stability as they begin figuring out what life looks like without Kim.
If you are able to contribute, any amount will make a difference.
If you are not in a position to donate, sharing this fundraiser, leaving a memory of Kim, sharing a photo, or simply keeping Muriel and Isaac in your thoughts means just as much.
I want Muriel and Isaac to be able to look back someday and see just how many people loved Kim.
I am grateful for every conversation, every adventure, every business we built, every laugh, every argument, every ridiculous moment, and every memory we shared.
I wish we had more time.
I love you, brother.
Rest peacefully, Kim.
You will never be forgotten.
With love and deepest sympathy,
Richard Nguyen
On behalf of Kim’s family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life he touched
