As many of you know, J.R. has been valiantly fighting what started as colon cancer since 2022. As of June 2026, he had completed 33 rounds of chemo at City of Hope (yes, 33, you read that correctly). The cancer spread to his liver, which is now only functioning at 20%, and J.R. is going into hospice.

To make things even more challenging for this incredible family, Altadena Children’s Center, where Terra taught young children since 2003, burned to the ground in last year’s devastating Eaton fire, meaning that Terra lost her job.

Between J.R.’s role as an Alateen sponsor and Terra’s years as an early childhood educator, J.R. and Terra have positively impacted the lives of countless teenagers, children, and families.  Now it is our turn to support J.R., Terra, and Jase, who starts middle school in August. Funds will be used for medical bills, including J.R.’s recent ambulance ride to the hospital, immediate and ongoing needs for the family, and continued mental health support.
