Hello Family & Friends,
Our family is going through an incredibly difficult time right now, and we are reaching out because we need help.
On April 6th, 2026, my dad went to what was supposed to be a routine doctor’s appointment and was unexpectedly rushed to the emergency room. The days that followed were filled with testing, fear, unanswered questions, and overwhelming uncertainty. On April 15th, he was officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that has already spread to other parts of his body. He was given an estimated 12 months with bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments.
My dad has already been out of work for the past three years due to a back injury, and now he is no longer able to work at all. While he does receive disability benefits, they are not enough to cover basic living expenses like rent and utilities.
For the last three years, my mom has been the lead provider for their family. On May 5th, she was rushed to the ER in severe pain. What she thought were extreme menstrual cramps turned out to be a ruptured colon. She underwent emergency surgery and had part of her colon removed. She is still hospitalized, and her recovery has been much more difficult than expected. At minimum, she will be unable to work for at least six weeks. Because she used all of her PTO while caring for my dad during his hospitalization and oncology appointments, she has no paid time left and does not have short-term disability coverage. While FMLA is available, it is unpaid.
My 16-year-old brother and 17-year-old sister still live at home. My sister is supposed to attend prom this weekend, but with everything happening, we have not been able to get everything she needs.
Transportation has also become a major challenge. My dad has been the only driver in the household, but chemotherapy and fatigue make driving difficult. I have been helping with transportation, appointments, errands, and day-to-day responsibilities as much as possible while also working 40–55 hours a week. I also recently began my Master of Social Work practicum, which requires an additional 16 hours a week providing direct services. Plus time spent teaching my sister to drive.
There are so many other unexpected expenses and hardships that have come up over the past two months, and any savings our family had are now gone. Right now, we are trying to prevent my family from losing their apartment while also making sure they have food, clean clothes, transportation, pet supplies, and other daily necessities.
I am doing everything I can, but I also have my own bills, tuition, and responsibilities to manage.
Simply put- They need help. We need help. If you took the time to read this, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Any donation, share, prayer, or support means more than we can express. ❤️ Resources are greatly appreciated as well.
