You may or may not know, depending on when you entered their story, that Neil and Mallory were high school sweethearts and have been best friends since they were 15.
They were married in 2018 after four years of college apart from each other, and had always dreamed of having a big family. When Neil's diagnosis came in March of 2020 with an initial prognosis of 9-17 months, and before they had any children, there was great sadness around the possibility that their dream may never come to fruition.
As Neil went through his initial treatments, got stronger, and was even able to work again, they decided to move forward with their dreams of children, thanks to IVF. Aidan was born in April of 2022. Then came Lyla in October of 2023.
By the time Aidan arrived in April of 2022, Neil’s cancer had returned and metastasized to his brain (the month before), and then his spine, hips, lungs and other areas later on. From then on, he was in and out of the hospital, in and out of more chemotherapy and targeted radiation treatments, continually working hard and steadily with occupational and physical therapists, and all in hopes of getting to one day do the things a dad should get to with his kids.
Neil mentioned one day, "Maybe we should have another," and Mal called the clinic ASAP to begin the IVF process for a third time. Sweet Malia was born in July of 2025.
Neil did all of this hard work with a positive attitude and calm demeanor. While his cancer journey was ongoing, as best friends who were still truly living life together, they thrived as best they could to make the most of it all, even though it looked much different from what they had initially envisioned.
We understand and appreciate so, so much that people want to show their love and support, and the most helpful and impactful way you can do that is to help us build this fund to provide assistance for the children and wife that Neil loved so, so much.
None of us can quite imagine the future Mallory faces as the widowed mother of three young children, who we hope each have tremendously healthy and bright futures ahead.
Mallory will be the sole provider, as well as homeowner, bill-payer, transportation provider, daycare and education funder, grocery getter—absolutely all of it, if you can imagine—and we wish to provide a safety fund of sorts to assist, whenever and however it is needed, for those unexpected expenses that occur and so that the kids can still DO the things that Neil's kids should get to--go to camp if they want to, play and participate in sports leagues, etc., etc., etc.
We don't really have any idea what that all might look like, but we know that this village, the very one to which YOU belong if you have read this far, the one that has rallied and rallied in support and prayers and loving on these Andersons the past 6 1/2 years, is absolutely amazing…and #steelneil strong.
We are so sincerely and tremendously grateful. Please…and thank you…for any help you can provide this one last time.
#steelneil ♥️ Forever in our hearts!
