In Support of Rodney Wilson

Rodney Wilson
On August 21, 2026, Rodney Wilson, a 35-year-old Black resident of Wilmington, NC, was shot twenty times by officers from the Wilmington Police Department and deputies from the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office in the midst of a severe mental health crisis.

Rodney was suffering from an extreme psychiatric crisis. Instead of empathy, compassion, and support, officers and deputies fired over 60 rounds, 20 of which struck Rodney.

Rodney miraculously survived this brutal assault, and spent time at the intensive care unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. When he was stable, Rodney was transferred to the care of a prison medical facility near Raleigh. He remains there in custody of law enforcement on multiple charges stemming from the incident.

These criminal charges are unfortunate given Rodney was experiencing extreme psychiatric distress. He needed compassionate help and understanding. Instead he was shot 20 times by area law enforcement.

Rodney faces a daunting physical and emotional recovery. He also faces a serious legal battle. The purpose of this Support Now is to assist him and his family with his enormous medical bills and also to secure legal representation for the court battle that lays ahead.

We hope you will give generously to this Support Now. If you would like to do more, please consider signing our petition demanding full, unredacted body camera footage from this tragic incident be released. Our petition can be found here: https://www.change.org/release-rodney-wilson-footage

Please keep Rodney and his family in your prayers. With help from the community, we hope Rodney will have a successful physical and mental recovery and also be legally exonerated. God bless you 🙏
