Let’s Show Up for Oliver 💛
Oliver is 17 and just graduated high school — a huge milestone, especially considering all he’s been through. He’s lived with an extremely rare genetic condition called ACTG2 gene mutation, which causes severe intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Fewer than 200 people in the world are known to have it.
Oliver has spent most of his life in and out of hospitals, including his current stay which is going on 16 weeks following a major surgery. He lives on TPN (IV nutrition), has an ostomy, and cannot eat — for the foreseeable future, maybe ever. Through all of this, his family has carried an unimaginable load with grace, hope, and love. They have never once asked for help — but now, we have the chance to step in and offer some support.
One thing that would make a real difference in Oliver’s quality of life is a bladder scanner. This device could spare him the discomfort and risk of daily catheterizations. Sadly, insurance has denied it, and the out-of-pocket cost ranges from $10,000 to $30,000.
This SupportNow page is a space for anyone who wants to help — whether that’s contributing toward the scanner, sharing their story, or just sending a message of encouragement. Every bit of support helps carry the load.
This family has been through so much, and they’ve handled it with nothing but strength and humility. It’s time we surround them with the kind of love and care they’ve always given so freely.
Ollie has become a great friend… he and my son Colby have an incredible bond. We would appreciate anything you can do to support this family so they don’t have to sacrifice greatly to get this bladder scanner. Life shouldn’t stop for things like this. They are planning on taking Oliver and his brother William on a well deserved trip once he is stable and out of hospital, and I would hate for this need to impact the life’s experiences they have already planned for their family after going through so very much!
Love, Steph (family friend)
