In Support of Moon Taubenfeld

To our family, friends, and everyone who has stood beside Moon, thank you so much for your support.

It is with heavy hearts that we share an update on Moon's journey.  We recently received the unfortunate news that Moon no longer qualifies for medical trials.  With great sadness and consternation, Moon and family have decided to transition to In-Home Hospice.

And yet, despite countless treatments, hospital stays, and setbacks, Moon's spirit is not gone, and her journey continues.  Because of you, we have been able to focus on giving her every opportunity to keep fighting.  We continue to seek doctors who specialize in helping late-stage patients and hold deeply to our Faith as we pray for healing.

We continue to need your support, and anything helps.

Our focus is now shifting to ensuring that every day is filled with comfort, dignity, peace, and the love of her family.  But Jeremy will now be working part-time to maintain the family's health insurance, while he continues in his primary role as caregiver, creating even more financial stress than already exists.

Moving forward, any financial support we receive will be applied in 3 main categories - Medical Bills, General Living Expense, and Creating Memories that will Last Forever.

Medical Bills - ever-present and mounting, the last thing the family hopes to focus on is mounting debt.  Donations so far have been instrumental in helping the family be fully present with each other.

General Living Expense - Jeremy will be working a significantly reduced schedule to be with and help Moon as much as possible.  Unfortunately, health insurance premiums increase with part-time status.  Even general, minimum expenses - mortgage, food, etc. - may become constrained.

Creating Memories that will Last Forever - Moon's favorite restaurants are Fuddruckers and Del Taco, which can no longer be found in Dallas.  Moon would like to visit Fuddruckers in Houston and then spend the weekend in Galveston, where she could enjoy the ocean.  Moon would also like to explore Tulsa, where plenty of Del Tacos can be found.  Moon's 50th birthday is September 12th.  Every special moment Moon can spend engaged in something new or beautiful is an opportunity to be grounded in the present and feeling only the love, happiness, and peace that exist there.

 

--ORIGINAL SUPPORT BACKGROUND--
On September 20, 2022, Jeremy took his wife, Yolanda, who we all know as Moon, to a local ER due to stomach pain.  As Jeremy put it, that night will forever be seared into his mind - just outside the door, the staff of the ER danced and joked blissfully, while inside the room, the Doctor delivered Moon’s blistering diagnosis--Stage 4 Colon Cancer.

That situation is a potent microcosm.  As life for most of us is taken for granted, Moon is fighting just to keep hers.  But anyone who knows Moon knows she is a fighter.  Through the constant physical, mental, and emotional pain, Moon has shown unimaginable grace and resilience.  Sensing the fear and pain of others affected by her illness, she serves as a bedrock of stability and comfort to those who sometimes seem overwhelmed by her struggle.

Recently, we received devastating news.  Moon's treatment has stopped working, and her medical team has informed her that she should enter palliative care or find a clinical medical trial.  Hope remains in a clinical trial, and this is where your help (even beyond your prayers) can really make a difference.  The fantastic news is, there is a medical trial at MD Anderson in Houston focused on the treatment of Moon’s particular cancer mutation, the Kras Mutation.  Nothing fantastic happens without challenges, however…

Continuing Treatment

Moon and Jeremy live in Dallas with their four kids - Bishop, Mariah, Kayla, and Landon, who is currently living with his parents while attending college - and an ever-growing supply of grandchildren - currently, Aria, Rosie, and Zayden.  Moon’s trial will require her and Jeremy to spend 2-3 days/week in Houston.  As you can imagine, as Moon's primary caregiver and companion, Jeremy has exhausted all of his paid time off and disability, and they have already accumulated nearly $8,000 in non-reimbursable medical debt.  To take advantage of Moon’s trial means entirely unpaid time off work on top of additional, mounting expenses. 

 

Moon and Jeremy can use whatever support you have to give.
