Life has its ups and downs and friends, family and community are here to help each other through tough times. Brad and Monica Smith welcomed a new baby boy, Shevlin, at the beginning of June. They were showering their new baby and his big brother Bode with love and adjusting to life with two little ones. Then two weeks later life took an unexpected and difficult turn for the whole family. Monica experienced a rare postpartum condition and had to be taken straight to the ICU. Time that was expected to be spent together as a family was shattered as time was now broken up between hospital visits, daycare pick up and drop offs, nurturing a newborn and navigating how and what a recovery may look like for Monica. Monica was in the ICU for a few weeks and was later transferred to the cardiac unit for a few more. Brad has been an amazing advocate for his wife and Monica is fighting to recover to get back to her baby boys. Recently Monica was transferred to Pittsburgh to a neurological rehab facility so she can be under amazing care as she continues her recovery path. As you can imagine this has been a trying time for the family and so many family members, friends and community members have stepped up to help in all different ways. All of the help has been greatly appreciated. It looks like there is still a long road ahead for recovery but, it looks like there is now light and hope in the future. Brad, Monica and the whole Smith family are incredibly grateful for all of the continuing support and look forward to getting back to slow paced family walks through the neighborhood.
