Matty was born with a congenital heart defect called congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA). By the time he was six weeks old, he had already undergone his first open-heart surgery. Since then, Matty has undergone two open-heart surgeries and two pacemaker placements.
On July 31, 2025, Matty's pacemaker suddenly stopped working, causing a cardiac arrest, which resulted in a hypoxic brain injury due to a lack of blood flow and oxygen to his brain. He spent the next two months in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, overcoming numerous complications before he was finally stable enough to begin rehabilitation at Blythedale Children's Hospital in the fall of 2025.

Since then, Matty has made incredible progress, but his recovery is far from over. We are now preparing for the next chapter: bringing him home, continuing intensive therapies, and helping him transition to a specialized therapeutic school.
While insurance covers some aspects of Matty's medical care, it does not cover many of the specialized resources he will need to maximize his recovery at home. To give Matty the best opportunity to regain strength and independence, he will need specialized equipment and ongoing rehabilitation that extends well beyond what insurance will provide.
Funds raised will help provide essentials such as a wheelchair, an accessible vehicle, adaptive equipment, therapy equipment, home modifications, and other rehabilitation resources that support Matty's recovery. Every donation helps ease the significant financial burden on our family and allows us to focus on what matters most: helping Matty continue his recovery at home.
