In Support of Luis Miguel

Hello family and friends!

This year has been one of the hardest we’ve ever faced. Month after month, Luis has spent more time in the hospital than at home as complications from his spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) have become more severe. SMA is a degenerative neuromuscular disease, meaning that over time it weakens the muscles he relies on for every basic function — including breathing.

Recently, SMA began affecting Luis’s lungs. After a frightening respiratory event and a long hospital stay, he now needs to go home with a ventilator to keep his breathing safe and stable. This is lifesaving equipment, but it also means our home must be prepared for emergencies — especially power outages, which are common in our area.

We’re raising funds to purchase a home generator powerful enough to support his ventilator during outages. Without it, even a short loss of electricity could put his life at risk.
