Forever, and ever….
Daniel passed peacefully in his sleep with the kids and I by his side in the night. Bringing him home was the best decision made, we were able to spend every moment together these last 16 days. We were able to give him the gift of love and laughter with us, family and friends, touching his grass, and seeing Christmas magic.
Amen

11/10/25 Update from Ashley:

Yesterday we had an us day. We watched Christmas movies, set up our tree, added more decorations, and it was what we needed. We always take a family picture in front of the tree and thankfully Cooper carried Daniel to and from to make it happen, a picture we will cherish forever.

11/1/25

Daniel is now home on hospice care.

On Thursday I had to make the most difficult decision of my life with Daniel’s doctors and medical team. I had to make the decision I know he needed me to make and that was to get him out of the hospital and bring him home to hospice care to our children to the place that is his favorite place in the world under our roof in our house that is full of love and memories, where our children can hold his hands, give him hugs, tell them they love him, that we can hold him, have his Chester at his feet, surrounded by unconditional love and care from family and friends.

Cooper was told after his game Thursday and he helped me Friday morning tell Dietrich and Stella that Daddy’s heart and soul are so strong and full of so much love for us that his body has fought so hard for so long that it just can’t get better. That he will be home with us until it’s his time to go to heaven.

Hello, family and friends!

10/24/25

Daniel has had a rough week. He has had a decline in cognitive abilities, trouble with memory and vision issues. On Wednesday he drove into the ditch on his way to work but thankfully he was ok and someone was able to help him. He did go to the ER but no major injuries, just has a sore back.  He is not driving anymore.

His decline is a result of the new chemo plan and the side effects and the tumor impacting nerves in his brain.

He did start Cyber Knife treatments on Thursday and will continue them next week. His Doctor also adjusted some of his other meds to lessen the side effects.

We are hoping the Cyber Knife will remove the tumors in the brain, along with the adjusted meds, and he will start to be himself again.

Thanks for all the prayers.

10/12/25 Update from Ashley:

Update from the Daniel Wiens family

I know that so many have been wanting to know about the trip to MD in Houston, and to say it’s been a lot would be an understatement. The trip itself was overwhelming, it wasn’t fun, (we did get to stay with our friends so that brought comfort). We went to Houston with the goal of getting a plan to get Daniel healthy again, to stop his body from growing this mutation of colon cancer. While there we met with Dr. Hu he went over his type of cancer and the mutation, and how there is a trail that Daniel could be a candidate for. We left feeling hopeful, nervous, overwhelmed, optimistic, terrified, and also ready to be with our kids. We got an earlier flight and home and got to watch Cooper and the Teutons beat Marion. Monday we called the Cancer Center as Daniel was having headaches and dizziness. By Tuesday we were in Dr. Pages office hearing that the cancer has spread to several spots in the brain and need to get radiation treatment soon. While there MD called Dr. Hu, let us know Daniel was a candidate for the trial, but once he was told of the brain scan it no longer makes him a candidate. BUT Dr. Hu at MD and Dr Page have a treatment plan with the two types of chemo that have been proven to fight the mutations he has. We also met with Dr. Bryant for Cyberknife radiation, he was fitted for the head piece that he will wear for treatments.  So this week we will get back into chemotherapy schedule as well as radiation.

🧡 just loved that Daniel was back on the chains for the first half of game on Friday (only had to sit by his loud wife 1/2 game instead of all 4 quarters)

This is a lot for all of us. I’m going to ask to please remember:
1. Our littles know that dad has to get back on the medicine again. That’s all. Leave it at that, we are trying to not make things more scary than they already are.
2. When we are at our children’s events and games we are there to watch them and their teams. So please be respectful of that.
3. We appreciate and would absolutely lost in all of this without all your support, good vibes, positive energy, prayers, and help keeping our lives going. We truly have the most amazing supportive family, friends, community. 💙

10/10/25 Update:

Results from the visit to MDA, Daniel is going to soon be starting 2 different chemos here in Kansas but didn’t qualify for any clinical trials as of now. They are also looking at doing more cyber knife radiation treatments in the near future.  Please keep them updated in your prayers.

Update from Ashley and Daniel
9/28/25

Tomorrow we will fly to Houston for Daniel’s new patient appointments at MD Anderson. Testing, labs, and new imaging will be done and we will leave Friday to fly home and have a plan in place on treatment.

9/3/25:
Daniel hasn’t been feeling well, so yesterday we brought him to St. Francis ER, it was along day. The CT showed his abdomen is back filling with bile, low white blood count due to infection. They got him on the antibiotics, and after 17.5 hours in the ER (private room thankfully) we were moved to the 7th floor at 2:20 AM. They have taken him back to get the drain placed back in. Thank you for your support, love, prayers, and good energy sent to us and our children.
We hope to get to go home later today since we know how to do the drain. It’s game week for our Cooper and the Teutons and we will be there 🧡

8/27/25: Update from Daniel.
For those who haven't heard yet...
yes my cancer is back already.  The plan is to get to MD Anderson in Houston asap and hopefully get on their trial drug to attack my specific type of cancer. We are scheduled to get down there September 29, though requests have been made to get there sooner. Will let you know more as we continue this journey. Thanks for the continued support and prayers!!

Update:
8/12/25.  Daniel got to come home today. On Sunday he had a couple of stints put in to assist with draining the fluid from around his liver along with the external
drain. He’s going to be taking it easy for a few days and continue to look into future treatment options.

Update:
8/8/25.  Daniel was admitted to the hospital after his follow up appointment with his surgeon.  He had a drain put in to get rid of a build up of fluid around his liver and is on antibiotics as well. He’ll be here a couple of days but is feeling better after the drain started working.

Daniel Wiens, a loving husband and dedicated father of three, needs our support. At just 39 years old, he is bravely fighting Stage 4 colorectal cancer that has spread to his liver and lungs. For the past two years, Daniel has shown incredible strength—enduring treatment while continuing to work as a golf course superintendent. But the most important role in Daniel’s life is being a father to his three very active and busy children—ages 7, 9, and 17—and a devoted husband to his wife, Ashley, of 11 years.

Since his diagnosis in 2023, Daniel has undergone 21 rounds of chemotherapy, CyberKnife radiation, numerous scans and imaging procedures, multiple lab draws, and countless doctor appointments. Despite his determination and persistence, their insurance has denied coverage for a crucial consultation at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas—a facility known for its expertise in treating advanced cancers.

Donations will go directly toward covering the costs of upcoming medical visits and helping the family travel to Houston for this potentially life-changing appointment. With their oldest son preparing to graduate high school, this is an especially emotional and challenging time for the Wiens family. Through it all, they have leaned on their strong faith—and now they are leaning on the strength of their community.

We can make a real difference by coming together to support Daniel and his family. A fundraiser is currently in the works, and we hope to launch it in the coming months—so stay tuned for details on how you can be a part of it. In the meantime, here are a few simple ways you can help:
