This is a story about waging war on cancer. But more importantly, it’s a story about Britt.
This summer, what started as stomach issues, very quickly turned into doctors, scans, major surgery and a diagnosis no one saw coming: Stage 4 colon cancer at age 40.
But before I tell you more about Britt’s cancer, first let me tell you about Britt.
If you know Britt, you know there isn’t much she does halfway. She loves big. She works hard. She is the mom in the stands, juggling three kids, practices, games and life… often working two jobs while showing up for every moment of her kids’ lives.
And now, it’s our turn to show up for her.
Britt’s journey began in May with stomach issues that continued to worsen. By the end of July, she landed in the ER while visiting family in California, where doctors discovered two enormous masses on her ovaries.
On August 13th, Britt underwent major surgery resulting in a hysterectomy, removal of both ovaries, her appendix, and affected areas of her peritoneum and omentum. Everyone believed they were treating ovarian cancer.
Then the pathology came back, with even more unexpected news.
Stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the colon, which had already spread to her ovaries and other areas of her abdominal cavity.
The news broke our hearts. But it didn’t break the fight.
Britt did what Britt does. She armored up. And she is ready to give it everything she has.
The battle plan:
Britt will undergo chemotherapy every two weeks for at least the next 4–6 months, including infusions at the cancer center and an at-home chemo pump, followed by maintenance treatment and possibly additional surgeries.
Through all of this, her heart is with her kids. She wants her three athletes to keep playing the sports (at the competitive level) that they love. She wants their lives to stay as normal, full and joyful as possible. She wants the games and practices, the laughter and ordinary days. She wants to keep making memories.
But fighting cancer is expensive.
Insurance only covers so much. And after years of working two jobs to provide for her family, the reality is that surgery, chemotherapy, appointments and recovery may make it impossible for Britt to keep carrying the workload she did before.
That’s where we can help.
Every donation will help with medical costs, lost income and the everyday expenses of raising three kids; including keeping them involved in the competitive sports and activities they love. But more than anything, it gives Britt something incredibly valuable right now: the freedom to put her energy into treatment, healing, being a mom, & living her life ((all while kicking cancer’s butt)).
Britt has spent her life showing up for the people she loves.
Now, let’s show Britt just how big her army is. Let’s surround her, carry her, and make sure she knows she never fights alone. 👊🏻 🤍
