A Different Backdrop: Texas Bound. 🖤🙏🏽
At 48 years old, as a mother of two and a grandmother, I’ve made one of the biggest decisions of my life: I’m leaving Richmond, Virginia and starting over in Texas.

Richmond has been home my entire life. It’s where I’ve raised my family, experienced love and loss, survived trials and tribulations, and grown into the woman I am today. But for years, I’ve wanted something different for myself and my family. Fear, finances, and being comfortable with what I knew kept me here longer than I should have stayed.

I’ve watched people I love become products of their environment, and at times, I’ve been a product of mine too. I’ve watched people close to me lose their lives, opportunities, and freedom. I’ve also watched some of those same cycles begin affecting my family.

I can’t change the decisions I made yesterday, but I can make a different decision today.

I’m ready to change the people, places, things, environment, and opportunities surrounding my family. I want my children to experience life outside of the only place we’ve ever known—to see new scenery, experience new opportunities, build new memories, and have a real chance at creating something different.

This isn’t a vacation or me running away. This is me finally having the courage to start over.

Starting over means finding new employment, securing housing, relocating our belongings, traveling to Texas, and maintaining basic living expenses while I get established.

That’s where I’m asking my community—my village—for help.

Any funds raised will go directly toward housing and deposits, moving and transportation expenses, basic necessities, and temporary living expenses while I secure employment and get back on my feet.

Richmond will always be part of our story, but it doesn’t have to be the entire story.
