The last week has been FULL of appointments, conversations, emotions, and honestly… we are exhausted. But even in the exhaustion, there is still SO much to be thankful for. 🤍

Thankful that we are home under the same roof.
Thankful that we get to be home while we wait.
Thankful for doctors who love Hudson, care for him, listen to him, and show him so much compassion.
Thankful for the people who continue to pray, check on us, encourage us, and walk beside our family through something none of us ever imagined we would be facing.

Monday we saw a dermatologist specialist. As Hudson’s heart has worsened, so has his eczema. It’s amazing how everything in the body can kind of coincide with one another. His body is working in overdrive right now, and the inflammation that comes with that has caused his eczema to flare in a way we haven’t seen since 2022, when he had his cardiac arrest. Seeing it come back has honestly been alarming for us because it feels like another reminder of just how much his little body is fighting right now.

We started some new medications and are praying that we can get the inflammation under control and give his body a little relief.

Tuesday we met with Hudson’s electrophysiologist. We talked through some possible medication changes that will be discussed with the rest of his cardiology team. There may be some adjustments that could help his heart “relax” a little more, and we are praying that even the smallest changes can give him some relief.

And then today… Thursday.

Today was our first transplant clinic appointment with the transplant team.

And today was the talk.

The conversation no parent ever wants to have with their child.

The conversation about a heart transplant.

I don’t think there is any way to truly explain what it feels like to sit in a room and hear those words spoken about your child. But somehow, in the middle of something so incredibly heavy, we could feel God’s presence in that room.

A peace that could only come from Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6–7

I’ve read those words before, but today they felt different.

Because we ARE anxious.
 We ARE scared.
We don’t know what the future holds.

But somehow, sitting there with Hudson, there was peace.

Hudson was calm. He was thoughtful. He asked questions. He showed an understanding and maturity that honestly amazed me. And somewhere during that conversation, I watched something change in him.

He could see hope.

For so long, we have talked about waiting, watching numbers, managing symptoms, trying medications, doing tests, and doing everything we can to keep his heart going.

But today, for the first time, I think Hudson understood that there is another possibility waiting on the other side of all of this.

A new heart.

A chance.

A future.

And I think what made today even more meaningful was watching the way Dr. Spinner talked to him. He didn’t talk over him or just talk to us as his parents. He talked directly to Hudson. He listened to him. He answered his questions. He made him feel safe.

Hudson truly adores Dr. Spinner, and today I watched him realize that he has a doctor he can talk to, a doctor who sees him, and a doctor who is on his team.

As his mom, that is truly all I could ask for.

It’s still scary. It’s still overwhelming. There are still so many unknowns ahead of us.

But today, instead of only seeing fear in Hudson’s eyes, I saw hope.

And I’ll hold onto that.

And tonight, that is enough.

God has been faithful to us before.
He is faithful to us now.
And He will be faithful to us through whatever comes next.

We will still need to spend 2-4 days up at the hospital meeting with several different teams that will follow Hudson through the transplant journey. We are waiting for all of those appointments to be set up and then we will be officially listed.

Please keep praying for Hudson. Pray for his heart, his body, his doctors, and for wisdom in every decision ahead. And most of all, pray that he continues to feel the same peace and hope that he felt in that room today.

One appointment at a time.
 One day at a time.
One prayer at a time. 🤍

Isn't it amazing how our Lord and Savior hears us. We have been praying daily with you that Hudson would have a peace for what his medical team planned. And he did! Thank you, Lord! One step at a time, and He is walking each step with each of you.
