Last night I got a call that I was not ready for. Dr Rodger’s called and told me that Weston will need to have surgery for his heart pump on Wednesday. His kidney function is going down hill, not gaining any weight and his heart rate is way to high for when he is resting. He explained they want to get him on the pump before his heart is too weak for it so that they don’t have to place him on the ecmo machine. The heart pump will let Weston grow and do normalish baby things. He can stay on the heart pump for quite some time while he either pulls off a miracle of recovery or gets a heart for transplant. Weston is a tough little fella, he has a great team of doctors and we know he will do great with surgery but that doesn’t make it easy on his parents.
