There's been some new developments in the last several days.
2 nights ago, my Mom had to be put back on oxygen.
Per my Mom's point doctor's request, a cardiologist was added to her team. She underwent a CT scan Wednesday morning, the 27th.
That evening just after 5pm my Mom experienced horrible chest pain for the first time. She had never experienced anything like this before and it lasted 10 minutes. She was sitting in her chair looking out at the view when it came on suddenly, as soon as the nurses helped her stand and move her towards her bed, the pain started to subside, but the fading wasn't immediate.
An EKG was conducted, results came back as normal. A few hours later a really uncomfortable ache started on the left side of her chest lasting approximately 7--8 minutes. Another EKG was ordered and conducted with results reading normal.
Thursday we met with the cardiologist. The screenings from previous tests came back as well as the CT results. The doctors discovered that my Mom's heart had a history of Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure involving the left ventricle. Her heart squeeze is currently 20-25% when the typical squeeze for a woman her age with this diagnosis is 50-70%.
The cardiologist ordered a wearable defibrillator for my Mom to wear for the next several months, as well as a heart medication to basically stimulate the left ventricle to perform. If there hasn't been healing or recovery in her heart after the precautionary period then the conversation would turn to the topic of putting in a defibrillator.
Today my Mom experienced another episode of chest pain that lasted 10 minutes but this time it did not ease up upon standing or laying down.
The risk of cardiac arrest is such that we have to be incredibly mindful of her physical activity. She has to be in an environment that doesn't startle her, cause adrenaline spikes, stress and physical exertion as she goes about her days.
The doctors are still running tests and double checking things to better understand if the state of her heart is in conjunction with the leukemia that's been in her body for the last 10 years or if it's a matter of the stress and trauma of the last couple weeks.
Since being admitted August 17th, my Mom almost passed away several times, God worked through the doctors and nurses to save her life and keep her with us.
The level of disbelief that this could be reality is either almost numbing or overwhelming to the point where staring at a blank wall feels grounding and like a safe place.
I know God is mighty, I know He is good and loves taking care of His children. He's not done with my Mom, He still has incredible, wonderful, exciting, joyful plans for her.
In light of the development involving her heart, the doctors are going to be discharging her either this Sunday or Monday.
We do have an Oncologist and Cardiologist waiting for my Mom in Prescott once we arrive back home, that is such a relief, a total blessing.
I am working on finding housing, if you could please pray for that. If you know of anyone who has a guest house and or rental in Prescott please reach out to me.
Thank you for reading this.
