Once Stetson was placed on the ventilator and stable they noticed he was having seizures… which often indicates brain damage so they instantly placed him on a cooling mat where he had to stay for 72 hrs…His internal body temperature was to be around 94*…. It was to help slow down the rate at which cells function, the body’s response is also slowed down… This allows brain cells to recover with less damage, which can improve long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes and reduce the damage and not cause further damage…. He was also given seizure medication! He was still unresponsive but occasionally opened his eyes a little…along with being on the cooling mat his body slows down over all so his blood pressure kept dropping and he had to be placed on blood pressure medication…. The hardest thing was not being allowed to hold him and have minimal touch as that could warm his body… So we waited 3 long days till they finally started the warming process….
