We made it down to North Carolina yesterday afternoon and Sienna had her first day at AKAP (all kids are perfect) DMI intensive! It was a GREAT first day! Sienna is proving just truly how strong of a girl she is and how hard she works.
For the first part of the day it was PT and OT evaluations as well as discussions with therapists to get to know Sienna more. In the afternoon she had her first PT session paired with the low level laser therapy. We also came home with "homework" to do to carry over things that were done throughout her session. The low level laser therapy is meant to help reduce inflammation to her brain so that it can activate the muscles needed to fire for movement and help facilitate neuroplasticity in the brain. A big focus of this intensive will be head and trunk control and integrating reflexes, as these are the basis and foundation before movement can occur.
Sienna impressed both her therapists & I with her increased attempts of muscle activation during head control exercises. After seeing what Sienna is capable of today, we are so excited for the rest of the week! Stay tuned for more :) check out Cassandra's IG story ( cassay_c) for a brief snippet of what Sienna did today in bringing her head up all on her own!
