Riley Herman
Not a whole lot of updates for Riley. She's still intubated with the hope that it will come out either tomorrow or Saturday. She actually had two intubations within 12 hours! Her one tube got pulled a little (maybe her doing), so they had to replace it. Then she chewed a hole in her second tube, so they had to replace that one. Now it's in her nose to prevent further chewing.
Yesterday was Sara's first day back at school since Riley has been in, and Riley asked for her when I arrived. They miss each other, but Sara and the boys are coming back down tomorrow. Grandma and Grandpa visited yesterday, and Riley got to video chat with her cousins today, so that kept her spirits up. She's being kept groggy with the intubation, but she's enjoyed the connections with the outside world.
We're so thankful for all the support everyone has shown us through this! The days are long, but all the prayers and support have helped us through them. If I can ask for other support, the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald houses could use some. They have been so helpful to us when Riley has been in the hospital, and it's such a great resource for families in their time of need. But they've been super busy this year (it took us 5 days before we were able to get a room), and their resources are running low. Thanks to your support, we have all we need, but if you want another way to help out families, you can donate to the Ronald McDonald houses, either with money or by sending supplies - https://www.rmhcphilly.org/donate/. You can contact Linda Pusatere <LPusatere@rmhcphilly.org> about what food/snacks you can send there. I'm having a shipment of hot chocolate packages sent, because that was always a hit with our kids (and for me if I wanted to fancy-up my coffee). I don't know if I can express just how comforting it is to walk into the Ronald McDonald house when your kid is in the hospital, and they get by with support from everyone.
Thanks again for all your thoughts, prayers, and support. The road ahead is long, but we're doing well thanks to your support.
