Post-SDR Surgery Update – May 17
Today brought another big step — Presley got out of bed and, with assistance, took a few small steps for the first time since surgery. It wasn’t easy, and throughout the day she battled a headache, nausea, and pain, but she still pushed through. We got her into her wheelchair a second time, and in the evening, she was the one who asked if she could practice sitting up.
She’s starting to feel more motivated to do the things they’re asking of her in therapy — she told me, “I just want to walk again.” Hearing that from her was both emotional and empowering. She’s so determined, and her strength continues to blow me away.
Last night was a bit better in terms of sleep, though nights are still tough. The pain from the day tends to catch up with her by bedtime, so evenings are usually the hardest.
We’re still on the post-surgery floor at BC Children’s Hospital, and we don’t have a confirmed date yet for when she’ll transfer to the Sunny Hill therapy centre inside the hospital for intensive rehab. For now, we’re focusing on one day at a time.
Thank you again for all the good vibes, prayers, and encouragement. Your love is felt deeply, and it’s helping us stay grounded through all of this.
With love,
Paige & Presley 💛
