Good Morning everyone — here’s the latest on Dad’s healing and some updated prayer requests.
Dad is getting a little better day by day. It’s a very long, slow process, but God is good, and we are seeing His hand in everything.
Breathing through a trach can be especially challenging with the constant fluids and draining caused by swelling and healing in his throat and mouth. It’s uncomfortable and hard at times — but Dad is doing well. Yesterday he was able to use a “talking trach” for a while (a cap placed on the trach that allows him to use his voice). We were able to hear him and talk with him for a bit — and he was even laughing. What a gift.
True to who he is, Dad has been an encouraging, kind, and even entertaining patient, and the doctors and staff absolutely love him. No surprise there. 🙂
He’s doing well enough that they plan to move him from the SICU to a step-down unit sometime today.
Breathing comfortably is still a concern, along with swelling in his neck, throat, and mouth, as well as the risk of infection.
Another sweet note — we’ve already seen God’s purpose in this season. We’ve had opportunities to pray with other families staying with us at Fisher House, and Dad has been able to minister to some of the staff through unexpected moments along the way. It’s been really beautiful to witness.
Prayer Requests
- Continued healing and for swelling to go down
- Protection from any infection or sickness — this would be incredibly serious right now, which is why he isn’t having visitors for the time being
- Easier breathing — the ongoing fluids clogging the trach make coughing very painful and uncomfortable. Please pray the fluids dry up and throat swelling decreases
- Rest for Dad, and continued peace and comfort
- Wisdom for the doctors and nurses caring for him
We remain deeply grateful for all the love, support, and prayers. God is good — and His love, along with the love coming from our communities, has been truly amazing.
