Good morning everyone — just jumping on with a quick update.

God brought Dad through a long 11-hour surgery. The surgeons were very positive and encouraging, saying they believe the surgery was successful and that Dad did very well. They feel confident they were able to remove all of the cancer, though we won’t know for sure until pathology reviews the tissue.

We were able to briefly see him afterward. He wasn’t awake but seemed somewhat aware, and we were blessed with a small smile. He’s currently connected to several tubes for breathing, nutrition, and drainage, and is very swollen. There was significant reconstruction involving his chest muscle, throat, mouth, and face, so physical therapy will be needed along with speech therapy.

We are so grateful for the Lord’s hand in all of this and are trusting Him through every step of this journey. Recovery will be intense. Dad will remain in the ICU for a day or two so they can closely monitor his progress and keep him as comfortable as possible. then he will be in recovery here for an undetermined amount of time.  Most likely, he will be here for at least a week.  The VA has been incredible, and we’re truly thankful for their care.

Please pray for:
• Relief from pain
• Healing
• No complications or infection
• Wisdom for the nurses and doctors
• No impact to Dad’s memory from the long anesthesia
• Confirmation that all cancer was removed and that no further treatment will be needed
