On Sunday, Nick was still in a lot of pain.  First thing in the morning, he seems to be ok, but for some reason On this day, he started having lots of pain after his 9:00 AM meds.  He had had some ultrasounds done and an xray, but didnt really find anything!  Kayla, with the heart team, had spoken with Dr. Cheng, a GI doctor.  They spent alot of time talking about Nick's situation before she came to see us.  She seems to be really smart and you can tell she really cares. She was going to have several labs ran the next morning.  He was having labs on his pancreas and his gallbladder.  She also looked st his stool on x-ray!  That finally looked good and cleared out.  Nick does have an "anular" pancreas.  We learned this last year.  His pancreas just goes down and stays on one side. It never goes to the other side like everyone else's in formation.  She also said that his stomach may not be emptying out.
Nick does have a G/J tube.  The J tube goes through a tiny sphincter and it can't fully close.  This could also have something to do with with his intestines if they are backed up.  It coukd be causing pain and vomiting.  The GI doctor is going to be talking to the Transplant Team about starting him on a medicine called Arythromycin!  It helps to empty the stomach.  It can interfere with his tacro levels, so they just have to be cautious.  He has been on a drug called Ursodiol since his transplant. This medicine will help prevent and dissolve gallstones.  He did have some at one time, but thankfully they are gone now.  This certain medicine also helps his gallbladder. Before his transplant, he had stage 3 cirrhosis of the liver, but his liver is stable now!
On Monday, during all of his pain episodes, he will be sound asleep and then all of a sudden open his eyes really wide and looked scared to death.  He would never look at me, even when I called his name.  He would always look above where I was standing.   They did hook him up to an EEG machine late last night.  Praise the Lord, there was no signs of seizures!
