Mack Hofacker
While on the keto diet (for almost a year) Mack has been on infant dairy keto formula, infant diary free keto formula, and now blended whole food prepackaged keto food called Functional Formularies. This is delivered to our house monthly by our DME company in single use packets and is mixed with water and sunflower lecithin to meet his keto ratio. This method of feeding has been a good transition from infant formula to real food but it is time to improve on this area once again.
We have transitioned Mack to 100% Syringe feeding which means we no longer use the pump! His chronic reflux seems to diminish greatly with out using the pump. I pray that it stays that way. This is the last step needed in preparation for feeding homemade blended feeds!!
This means I will go grocery shopping just for Mack and find the best ingredients to add to a professional blender while using a recipe calculator. We will be prioritizing things like: Bone broth, sauerkraut, chai seeds, squash, asparagus, leeks, sardines, grass-fed beef, beef liver, pastured chicken, coconut water, herbs, ghee, MCT oil, olive oil, oysters, blueberries, cranberries, zucchini and more.
We are ordering a Vitamix 5200 blender ($500) with our crowd funding while we wait for recipe instructions from Mack's keto dietician. She will give me access to a recipe calculator with specific macro guidelines for any whole food ingredient we would like to use.
Dr. Lucas:
Tomorrow we have a follow up call with Dr. Lucas so review Mack's current supplements and simplify them based on his diet change coming up. We will be ordering Gut labs ($550) again soon to see how these supplement changes have repaired his gut and if there's anything else lingering that is problematic.
Myofascial Release Therapy:
This Thursday we have our first appointment with a Myofascial release therapist! A couple weeks ago I discontinued PT because I'm worried about the damage and chaos happening to his nervous system during the sessions since he screams until he's purple during all sessions. For a kid who has untreated seizures this is not okay. This might be effective for others but I can see it working against him every week. Mack continues to progress outside of PT and I believe that the recent decrease in oxygen requirement (1 1/2-1 LPM to 3/4-1/2LPM or lower) is correlated to pausing PT sessions. Myofascial therapy will focus on the fascia and release any tension in it through out his body. This is a specialized form of PT which will work with calming his nervous system and optimizing the function of his muscles AND his organs! These sessions are almost an hour away from home and cost $80 out of pocket (she doesn't take insurance and insurance doesn't acknowledge this therapy any way).
HBOT:
I'm in the beginning stages of looking into HBOT for Mack. This would involve traveling across the country for sessions and ultimately purchasing a home chamber ($10,000).
Thank you for reading my words and praying for my son. Though we have completed his first functional neurology intensive, we are still in need of donations to continue with improving Mack's health and progression through his untreated Epilepsy. This will be a life long endeavor as long as insurance companies refuse to acknowledge the new alternative therapies that WORK. If you would like to donate towards our blender or anything else you've read about on my posts or updates you can do so on the main page! Every donation, share and prayer is so appreciated. You are truly protecting our quality of life as a family by doing so!
