ICU
Koehn Family
After an extremely scary, chaotic, and unexpected night, we wanted to update you all that Emmy is currently in the pediatric ICU. During a routine vitals check around midnight, a nurse found Emmy to be having a seizure. Emmy was not responsive, had a high body temperature, and was showing signs of respiratory distress. The medical team administered a number of medications to stop the seizure and intubated her in the ICU. She remains intubated in the ICU and under sedation.
At this point, we don’t know what caused the seizure. Emmy has had a number of curious symptoms over the past month, which have repeatedly delayed her discharge. We’re unsure if the seizure is related to those symptoms, or if it’s an entirely different issue altogether. Emmy will have 3 MRIs and 2 ultrasounds today, which will hopefully provide some answers.
On a positive note, Emmy was officially deemed in remission as of yesterday! A bone marrow biopsy after her completion of the first (and most intensive) phase of treatment confirmed NO blast cells remain in her bone marrow!
Emmy is exactly where she needs to be, receiving the care she needs. There seems to be another unexpected and devastating hurdle around every corner, but we are praying for quick answers and a speedy recovery for our sweet girl. Any prayers and positive thoughts you can send our way are appreciated.
