I seriously canβt believe itβs our last week!
Keegan started this week off STRONG. They were complimenting him on how strong his shoulders are getting. At the beginning of this intensive, when he was on his tummy trying to prop himself up, he would just completely collapse. Now he is helping hold himself up and getting SO much stronger. We are seeing so many tiny wins build on each other, and it is turning into strength that I really think is going to set him up even when we get back home.Β
Today, he got to play with shaving cream in the spider cage! They had him stand and really explore with his feet by slipping and sliding around in it. He seemed to LOVE the feeling of the shaving cream between his toes, and watching him just enjoy it was so funny.
He also got to do his Neuronode trial today! He will keep practicing with it the rest of the week, because there are SO many ways they can calibrate it specifically to him that we barely scratched the surface today. Even with this limited exposure, he was already getting the hang of it! He loved the game where he could give the doggy a bone and then scare it with a spider. He also played with sounds and selected burp, explosion, and clapping because apparently those are the sounds he finds most important. π Super glad he skipped over fart, but I am sure big brother will teach him soon about how hilarious it is.Β The really exciting part about the Neuronode is that it picks up on these small, controlled movements that don't fatigue him like eye gaze or even his buttons can. It is really taking the skills he already has and giving him another way to use them to communicate. And as he gets stronger, they can continue to customize it to him. I am REALLY hoping we can get a trial once we are back home in Lakeland. I already emailed his home SLP!
I seriously cannot believe this is our LAST WEEK. I am SO excited to get home and see what all of this looks like in our everyday life, but I am also so sad that this experience is almost over. This has been absolutely amazing for Keegan. Watching him work SO hard, figure things out, get stronger, and show us what he is capable of has been incredible.
