Thank you for being here and for following along on our journey! Your presence is truly appreciated. We are so grateful for all the continued support! We officially hit $1,500!! This is such a huge accomplishment on our way to our goal of $25,000!
CVI (Cortical Visual Impairment) is a neurological vision disorder caused by damage to the visual processing pathways, not the eyes themselves. CVI makes faces hard to recognize and distorted vision. The severity of CVI day to day can change based on a number of things including fatigue. Visual clutter can make it difficult to focus or recognize people, familiar places and objects. Most people with CVI have heightened senses as well.
Things that help Kaysen:
- wearing familiar clothing when he sees you (same color, hat, scarf, glasses, etc)
- using the same phrases when referencing familiar people, events, items, tasks
- less visual clutter
- making everything clearly known before it happens
- high contrast backgrounds (Kaysen prefers dark backgrounds)
Having a service dog to help Kaysen feel safe in uncertain environments would be a game changer for Kaysen. The service dog would be a constant in his world, in places that are not familiar. He can’t rely on his vision to give him the whole picture of what is happening around him. This creates immense amounts of anxiety around new people, places, and sounds. A service dog would change his world and help give him independence he currently doesn’t have.
