We had a whirlwind last few days in Atlanta meeting the proton radiologist, orthopedic surgeon, and oncologist at CHOA. We also were able to weave in being seen at an integrative clinic in Atlanta and Judah got to get some high dose vitamin C & did hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Overall, we had a really good trip and feel like Judah will be in very good hands with the CHOA team. The oncologist there has been treating other kids with poorly differentiated chordoma. The plan that was decided was to start immunotherapy (nivolumab & ipilimumab) in Columbia TOMORROW. His CHOA oncologist wants to try 2 cycles of this immunotherapy along with the tazmetostat he just started on Saturday. Then we will rescan. A lot of children with PDC are not resectable, because it’s in the spine. While this tumor is spreading out widely all in Judah’s hip, the chance of removing his chordoma is possible. Unfortunately this would mean the hemi-pelvectomy surgery and Judah as an amputee. We continue to beg the Lord that this not be Judah’s story, but as we told him we would take a 1 legged Judah over no Judah. However, the life change this would bring is heavy and we still do not want this for him. There is also concern that the tumor is very close to his rectum. This could mean Judah would have to have an ostomy. There’s a chance it could be reconnected and a chance it could be permanent. Some of you may not know this, but when I was 20 years old I had an ostomy. Hart & I were dating & I was in college. I had 3 surgeries in that period of my life and while it’s absolutely not the end of the world, this week was the first time we heard anything about this as a possibility for him. Now I know why God chose me to be his mother. We are still fervently praying that Judah’s tumor shrinks in the next 6 weeks and that his body responds well with few side effects. Thank y’all so much for all the continued prayers and financial support! It’s been so hard to walk this road again and we are continuing to ask God to do mighty things for Judah. We will be in Columbia for several more weeks and we also feel like Atlanta is the right place for us for further treatment or surgery if it comes to that.
