Jen continues to be deeply moved by all the love and supportive messages, donations, and offers for help you have provided. There really are no words to express the gratitude she feels and when I share your messages- it truly brings a smile to her face! Your healing wishes, prayers are so appreciated- please keep them coming!
We had a set back yesterday, Jen had not been feeling well and was experiencing increased headaches and overall fatigue. The town visiting support provider had stopped in and felt Jen needed to be seen immediately, so Jen was brought by ambulance to a local hospital E/R for evaluation. She is now back at her home, and we have switched today's appointment with her neurosurgeon to an online visit instead of in person at MGB Boston. We hope to get important forms completed that are needed for state and federal assistance including her SSDI application.
We have found some amazing local support personnel and we have a wonderful Medical Case Manager at MGB who has been helping us navigate various challenges.
Jen was overwhelmed with you helping us achieve our $10,000 funding goal. Thank you to each and everyone of you who has contributed, and help spread the Jen's story.
We are learning that the cost of staying at an assisted living facility is quite high and until we get SSDI approved (which will likely take several months), we need to tap into more service providers to see what is the best path forward forJen. We definitely want to get her at least temporarily into some form of assisted living facility. So you will see we have increased our funding goal today to hopefully secure funds to make that happen more quickly. With the loss of her sight and Jen still healing from her stroke, we really have set this as a priority.
We are going to be reaching out the the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind to see what support and advice then can offer.
Many of you have offered "lend a hand" support and I'll be reviewing these with Jen over the next few days. Thank you for the ideas and offers! We definitely need more people who can be available to be Jen's eyes/hands when her family cannot be physically with her and until we can get her additional nursing help (in home or at an assisted living facility).
We ask that you continue to pray for Jen to get her needed rest, that we find the right resources quickly to secure a solution to her near term living needs and that she heals fully from her brain injury.
We also ask that you to continue to share Jen's story to those in the paramedic, police, and Firefighter communities - this help is greatly appreciated
