A good week of progress on Jen's road to recovery - Jen sends heartfelt thanks for your love and continued support!

A lot has transpired since our last update on various aspects of Jen's near and long-term care. Our focus has been primarily on getting Jen through a multitude of medical appointments and assessments to help her heal and develop the best care plan for the longer term.
WIth Jen's vision challenges, securing rides and individuals to help accompany her is a priority. We have learned of various available processes for both MGB appointments and other with her PCP affiliated providers. This is all helping ease transportation challenges. Then we are leveraging family and friends to help fill in. What is most important is that Jen has someone with her to help with taking notes, and helping her navigate to/from her appointments. As we get more of the calendar of medical visits laid out, it is becoming a bit easier to get this arranged, as we have a bit more advanced notice and time for planning.
As shared in our last update, Jen's will be proceeding with a second reparative brain surgery mid-August at Mass. General Brigham. Another big step forward was her appointment this past week with a Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) certified ophthalmologist. Jen went through a battery of tests spending several hours being evaluated. The ophthalmologist found that Jen does have retinal artery damage to both eyes. There is further testing needed to finalize his findings, which will feed her application for support services from MCB. These follow up tests are being slated for the end of August. There is discussion of some form of reparative surgery, yet to be confirmed. The outcomes of these examinations also will feed input to Jen's longer term care - such as SSDI and other state/federal support programs.
The visiting nurses from Nashoba.org continue to provide Jen with wonderful care helping with her medications and investigating other community services available to Jen. They have been a God send.
We have also made progress on extending Jen's paid medical leave to cover the period for her upcoming brain surgery and recovery, as well as getting visibility to her health and employee benefits. We hope to have certification of her PML extension this coming week, and a better/fuller understanding of where she stands on medical coverage and expenses incurred to date. Jen's ability to view messages on phones or computers is extremely limited due to her vision challenges. And as you can imagine, the stress and fatigue she still carries from her stroke and brain injury. Continued prayers for Jen's healing is very much appreciated.
Jen wants to thank you again for all of your financial contributions. They ARE making a huge difference and alleviating some of the financial stress Jen has been under while trying to heal. We were able to cover Jen's electrical and telephone bills this past week and are saving towards other housing expenses that "stacked up" since Jen was first hospitalized with her stroke back in May. We know there are multiple medical bills and are going to be focusing this coming week on understanding the scope of these so that we can prioritize how we address them.
We can not thank all of you enough for your tremendous support for Jen- emotionally, financially and spiritually. She sends her love and heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.
We are still working on our "lend a hand" calendar. I apologize for the delay in getting times/days in place. Our focus has been on getting Jen's critical medical appointments laid out, scheduled and rides/companions arranged for each appointment. We do hope to get more information out to the lend a hand volunteer calendar this coming week. So do stay tuned if you have offered or are interested in helping support Jen with lend a hand needs.
