It's been a long week of treatment, but it marks us one week closer to maintenance chemo. Jade was admitted Wednesday because clinic was closed due to the holiday! She was fine with being admitted until we got there. The second we walked into the room she felt immediately sick and wanted to go home. These rooms hold so much trauma filled experiences for her. But she got through it.. she got her shot and we were on our way shortly after! Thursday was a long day. She went to clinic to get accessed, then to the OR for a Lumbar puncture with chemo in her spine, then back up to clinic for methotrexate and Vincristine. When she got home, she felt so terrible. She took 4 different showers to try to feel better. Sadly, the chemo just made her feel extremely crummy. We went back today for a chemo shot.....And all I can say is Thank you Jesus its the weekend, because we are exhausted!
Today they told us it looks like maintenance is due to start 1/30/25!!!! THIS MONTH!!! The first month or so will take some time to get everything figured out just right to balance having enough chemo in her system, but also keeping her immune system at a decent place. Each maintenance cycle is about 84 days, but it has mostly chemos Jade can take by mouth at home. She will still have some lumbar punctures, and will still have to be at the ER for a fever over 100.4, she will still have frequent lab work, BUT we will be at the hospital so much less than what we are now.
Jade has been in such a critical part of chemo for the last 11 months. Maintenance marks a time in treatment that Jade is able to do more 'normal' type activities. She has a Make-a-Wish trip planned and even has the option of returning to school in the next few months!
