Jade Cato's Recovery
Yesterday I had to bring Jade into the ER, which resulted in an admission for the night. Jade started having pain
in her back Thursday night after our clinic visit. I gave her some Tylenol and that allowed her to get some rest for the night. Friday she woke up and she still had pain. I gave more Tylenol, but that didn’t do anything to help. Because she is in pain often with chemo I was able to give her a dose of stronger pain meds. That was only a temporary fix and within 2 hours she was having pain still. I am only allowed to give her the pain meds every 6 hours and her pain level was a 10/10. She was screaming in pain, so I loaded her up to the ER after talking with her team. Thankfully our amazing neighbors and friends had Sawyer over at their house and he didn’t have to see Jade in so much pain. Poor Demi was so worried about her. In the ER we were able to get her pain managed with even stronger pain meds through her IV. After some blood work and ultrasound to rule out kidney stones and some other things, we went to the pediatric oncology unit for the night. Jade didn’t need anything else though the night for pain so we were able to be discharged this morning. The likely cause of her pain is that the chemo had suppressed her counts and when her marrow is recovering it can cause pain. Jade has felt that before, but it’s never been anything to this extent. Based on bloodwork from when she was in clinic on Thursday, her White blood count was .8 and her ANC was 460. Yesterday when we came to the ER her WBC was 2.2 and her ANC was 1600. That is a huge difference in a 24 hour period and her marrow was working overtime. The process must have just caused her body extreme pain that she couldn’t handle. Luckily most of us don’t know what that feels like, but I refuse to just let her push though pain. Hopefully that is all it was. Everything else looks good. Her liver enzymes are still very high, but hopefully that is just temporary from the chemo. We are home now and she is feeling so much better! Praise the Lord! My sister in law swooped right in without missing a beat and kept everything moving so Sawyer could make his soccer game and little Demi got her hair and nails done and looked absolutely adorable.
