Cody had a bit of a setback after surgery, which has delayed us starting his 5th round of chemo before stem cell transplant. It’s been a little tough, but we know this is all part of His plan, and we’re trusting God every step of the way. 

The doctors aren’t discouraged at all (thankfully!). Cody developed what’s called a chyle leak, which happens in about 30% of patients after a big abdominal surgery. Basically, it’s when lymphatic fluid (which carries fats from digestion) starts leaking into the abdomen instead of flowing where it should. They drained about 2500 mL (2.5 liters) of fluid off his belly, and we have to wait until the leak fully closes before moving forward with chemo. Today, we had around 500mL so we know it's slowly healing. He has an NG tube for feeds and also can only have applesauce and water :(

The plan is to stay in the hospital until it’s resolved. Hopefully that is within the next two weeks, and then begin chemo. Our hope is to start this Wednesday, which will be a 3-day stay, followed by 3–4 weeks of rest before Stem Cell Transplant #1.
