Cody's Comeback
Cody’s surgery went very well! It lasted 10 hours, and the surgeon was able to remove everything seen on imaging, including dozens and dozens of affected lymph nodes. His entire tumor and right adrenal gland were successfully removed in what’s called a Total Gross Resection. We are incredibly thankful that his right kidney and bowel were saved, even with the surgeon working around extremely complicated vessels. We are so grateful for the amazing surgical team at Riley, especially Dr. Cromeens.
The first night in recovery was extremely rough. Cody’s pain was not well managed. Thankfully, the Pain Team stepped in and made Cody their #1 priority. Yesterday he had a much better, more restful day and even slept most of the night. Today we begin PT and hope to get him up in a chair. He hasn’t eaten much yet (just a popsicle 😊), but we’re praying his appetite returns little by little. He still has an epidural in to help manage abdominal pain, which should stay for another day or two. His incision stretches from the center below his ribs across his right abdomen, about 9 inches in length. It is part of his story now...and it is beautiful.
We know so many of you have reached out, and we are deeply thankful. Meals are pouring in and we feel so loved. If you’d like to help while we’re at the hospital, DoorDash gift cards are always appreciated.
