Jamieson Family Health Journey
Larry is still in the hospital and we don’t know yet when he’ll be able to come home. Nobody is comfortable that this is just cellulitis or that they have enough information about why this episode of cellulitis was so atypical with very sudden appearance and rapid decline of his health earlier this week. And they don’t like that he’s not getting much better or faster.
Thank you for everyone praying and to those who have texted, messaged or called. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with responding yet your questions and encouragement are always appreciated, especially when we’re feeling discouraged or alone. Thank you for being patient while we’ve been navigating a bunch of things here behind the scenes — some related to Larry and some other things related to Carly, me and general household stuff.
SIDENOTE: I want to apologize for any troubles you've had commenting on this platform. There's a glitch somewhere on their system and a couple of you have been kind enough to send screenshots and information they requested to help them figure out what's wrong. I have been frustrated and too busy to be sending them more of the info they think could help. Your comments mean so much to us.

I’ll start with some good news. Larry is not in pain and he's been able to get reasonably good sleep these first 3 nights in the hospital. His blood pressure has been fine the last 2 days and edema is slightly better today. (We were very relieved to get his wedding ring off before it had to be cut off due to increasing swelling in his hands.)
Other things are not-so-good clear or encouraging. There are numerous specialists (e.g., hematology, infectious disease, dermatology, rheumatology) weighing in daily on his atypical variety of issues and symptoms ranging from a petechial rash to unclear blood culture results. Among their concerns is unexplained inflammation in his body.
So they had two very specific GOALS TODAY:
- Biopsy of the skin on Larry’s leg (will tell them about “100 things,” they say)
- Rule out vasculitis
Praises and prayer from the Jamieson camp:
- Pray for full and complete healing for Larry. Praising God for many merciful protections we have seen along the way.
- Thanks to God Larry’s stress test (last week) suggested his heart health is stable compared to testing done one year ago (though this is unconfirmed by his cardiologist because hospitalization interrupted our follow-up with him).
- We’re asking God for biopsy results that come quickly, with clear answers and effective treatment of Larry’s current infection.
- Carly’s dental repairs under general anesthesia are finally scheduled (after waiting in pain for her turn to come up on the wait list) and will happen Monday, October 5th at 12:30 pm.
- Praise God, Lisa has had “textbook” procedure and recovery from dental surgery — apicoectomy last week and stitches out yesterday.
- Blessed be the name of the Lord for providing puddles in the Target parking lot (His way of saying “I see you and I care about the little things that you care about.”)
- Praise be to God for people walking into the waters of faith with us to demonstrate love and caring (e.g., Sofie taking Carly for communion and hanging out with the young adults at church last week, Keith’s validation of a hard situation, the stranger at Punch Pizza who saw Carly struggling then helped her and I get to the car with takeout).
- Asking God to put order and peace to the many moving parts of our lives.
- Seeking God to help us to hold our plans loosely and let Him hold us lovingly (even through frustrations and disappointments).
The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever.
Deuteronomy 29:29
Our God is in heaven and does whatever he pleases.
Psalm 115:3
For nothing will be impossible with God.
Luke 1:37
Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.
Jeremiah 32:17
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts you.
Isaiah 26:3
