Biopsy Results and Other Curious Things

Larry's leg biopsy results came back early this afternoon. According to his hospitalist (she's awesome), this is a timing miracle. She expected we would have to wait until tomorrow or even Sunday. So big thanks to God for that speed along with the fact that it shows no signs of vasculitis. 

Despite that bit of clarity, the biopsy does show a dermal (skin) hypersensitivity reaction and the cause is not yet known. While some things are improving, others are not. And even some new symptoms have appeared. 

As a result, a multidisciplinary group of specialists is still consulting throughout every day as labs are drawn and symptoms are monitored. Infectious disease, dermatology and hematology are all chiming in here. We are very reassured by how thorough and thoughtful they are being. 

This is Day 5 since Larry was admitted. During our most recent conversation with the hospitalist, she explained: "The team is keeping a very close watch on you and needs to get a sense of how your labs are trending for at least one more day. If counts improve tomorrow, MAYBE you'll go home and just follow up next week with the specialists in their clinics." 

Since that conversation, another test was done and the result revealed another problem. So, we wait and have more questions.

Carly's pre-op physical went well this afternoon. Now she and I are headed back to the hospital for the evening and dinner with daddy-o. (The photo is from dinner visit last night.)
