A lot had changed in the past week. Last Friday I started to develop mucositis/ mouth sores from the chemo and radiation in addition to the sore throat. I really struggled over the weekend to eat and drink. Monday morning instead of radiation Dave took me to ED. I was pretty dehydrated and in severe pain from the sores and ulcers. I was admitted and will be here at least through the weekend. I have been getting iv fluids and iv pain medication through a pump that gives me continuous dose and I can hit button as needed. I have an excellent care team including hosptialist, oncology and palliative care oncology. The plan is for me to eventually get a feeding tube. They did start iv nutrition through my port which I am happy about as my nutritiion has really be lacking. All my counts are low especially my white blood cell and neutrophil which is worrisome. I spiked a fever yesterday and am on iv antibiotics. They are hoping the sores will improve as my white blood cell count improves. I am still pretty weak but so grateful to be here. They are holding radiation for now.
Dave and boys are doing ok. Dave comes here when he can and boys are busy with school and sports. They are worried but we keep trying to reassure them and keep strong prayers coming. We are avoiding any other visitors other than Dave to avoid infection risk.
Thats a lot so I will stop for now. I would appreciate prayers for my white blood cell and nautrophil counts to improve (checking daily). This should also help the mouth sores but praying I will have good plan when I go home for pain. I am in no hurry to leave for sure.
Thank you to all who have offered help and prayers. I cant always respond as I sleep a lot due to the pain medicine but do see each one. We have all felt uplifted by the tremendous support and are so grateful!
