I had a long day of appointments today. My bloodwork looked good. My oncologist went over MRI results that he reviewed with the radiologist. There is a lot of inflammation throughout my sinuses on the left side so it is difficult for them to get good views of the tumor. Worst case scenario from what they can see is the tumor is stable and best case is it is a little smaller. The good news is it is not bigger so I will take that. So the plan is to stay the course and have 2-3 more cycles of chemotherapy (3 days each) and start radiation next week. I will have 7 weeks of radiation with 5 treatments a week. No surgery for now which is great. After all that I will rest and recover with a followup PET scan in 3 months. I saw Radiation Oncology this afternoon and had simulation done with a mask made to mold to my face. I am very claustrophobic so this was challenging for me and I will have to gear myself up for the treatments. I keep hearing my mom say "mind over matter" and "this too shall pass" so trying really hard to channel her positive energy and mindset she always had. I miss her so much especially during this journey. She always saw the best in every situation and was always hopeful. I try to be more like her everyday.
I have my thyroid biopsy tomorrow morning and hopefully will get results next week.
I work Monday (depending on this crazy weather coming our way) and then will be off during the 7 weeks of radiation treatment. I will miss my work family and patients and families so much but know this is what I need to do right now in this journey.
Thank you all for checking on me and for your sweet and encouraging words and messages. I am so grateful!! Stay safe in the arctic weather coming our way!
