I had a long day of appointments today. My bloodwork looked good. My oncologist went over MRI results that he reviewed with the radiologist. There is a lot of inflammation throughout my sinuses on the left side so it is difficult for them to get good views of the tumor. Worst case scenario from what they can see is the tumor is stable and best case is it is a little smaller. The good news is it is not bigger so I will take that. So the plan is to stay the course and have 2-3 more cycles of chemotherapy (3 days each) and start radiation next week. I will have 7 weeks of radiation with 5 treatments a week. No surgery for now which is great. After all that I will rest and recover with a followup PET scan in 3 months. I saw Radiation Oncology this afternoon and had simulation done with a mask made to mold to my face. I am very claustrophobic so this was challenging for me and I will have to gear myself up for the treatments. I keep hearing my mom say "mind over matter" and "this too shall pass" so trying really hard to channel her positive energy and mindset she always had. I miss her so much especially during this journey. She always saw the best in every situation and was always hopeful. I try to be more like her everyday.
I have my thyroid biopsy tomorrow morning and hopefully will get results next week.
I work Monday (depending on this crazy weather coming our way) and then will be off during the 7 weeks of radiation treatment. I will miss my work family and patients and families so much but know this is what I need to do right now in this journey.
Thank you all for checking on me and for your sweet and encouraging words and messages.  I am so grateful!! Stay safe in the arctic weather coming our way!

Ashley, I will pray for your strength through this difficult course of treatment. You have already channelled your mother in every way. This will be a continuation of that. Praying that your thyroid biopsy tomorrow goes well. I had mine removed two years ago (had a misshapen one that they wanted to get rid of). Have had no problems so counting on that for you!

Hi Ashley, I'm so happy to hear that the tumor did not grow and that surgery is not on the agenda in the foreseeable future. Since your radiation treatments are so frequent I bet you will quickly acclimate to the mask so it's not so bothersome as time goes by. I'm afraid of heights and in college was assigned to the sixth floor of a high-rise dorm with exterior balconies as the only access to my room (Morrison). I pretty quickly adjusted to the stretch of balcony leading to my room and thought nothing of it. Interestingly, I still couldn't handle the other balconies even if they were on lower floors. Repetition seems to be the key. I hope you get good news on your thyroid biopsy and can just check that one off your list. You are in my daily prayers and I am sure you are your mother's daughter❣️

We will pray that you can wear that mask without any discomfort and that it does its job…as well as the chemo! These are tough things to go through but I’m sure you are handling it as gracefully as your mom. ❤️
