The Weilnhammer Family
‘Twas the night before discharge, and all through the room,
Not a pump was alarming, no sense of impending doom.
The IV poles stood quieter, the tubing at rest,
After weeks of brave battles, Camila had passed yet another test.
Her blankie was tucked in her hospital bed just right,
While nurses checked softly in the glow of the night light.
And Mami laid beside her, though weary and worn,
Held hope for the morning when a new day would be born.
For this little girl, so steady and strong,
Had fought through so much for oh, so long.
With courage that shimmered in each tiny smile,
She showed us all strength that stretched mile after mile.
The feeds had run steady, her body held tight,
Each ounce of nutrition a small victory in sight.
No TPN humming, no midnight alarms,
Just the quiet of healing in loving arms.
The doctors had rounded, the goals nearly met,
A milestone achieved none of us will forget.
And though there’s more healing and growing to do,
Tonight brings a promise of something brand new.
So rest little warrior, the morning is near,
Your village is cheering, your path growing clear.
For tomorrow we’ll gather your things and depart,
With pride in our voices and joy in our hearts.
And we’ll whisper with wonder, as the sunrise comes through:
“You did it, sweet Camila! We’re going to casa with you.” 💜
