Summer break...

When I hear/read "summer break", I'm flooded with thoughts of sunshine, swimming pools, cold treats, and fun days.  I think that's what we were hoping for Mom/Kelsey and Dad/Wayne between phases of Mom/Kelsey's treatment.  Unfortunately, it hasn't really played out that way.

While they were able to travel to MI and TN to visit family over the last few weeks, Mom/Kelsey has continued to struggle with her appetite and nausea, and subsequent weakness.  We are worried about how this will impact her as she begins the next phase of treatment soon.  On August 2nd, Mom/Kelsey will have another scan of her head, and the team will determine the best course of action moving forward.

We continue to pray for her strength, appetite, nausea, and general neurologic functioning.  Mom/Kelsey needs to eat/drink, but isn't hungry/thirsty...and what she does eat/drink, she struggles to keep down.  Pray for her patience with Dad/Wayne as he pushes her to keep trying.  And pray for Dad/Wayne.  He toils, daily, against the brain injury that causes delays and deviations in Mom/Kelsey's executive functioning.  She is so sharp and aware but continues to struggle turning some thoughts and commands into action.

All that said, we're all doing alright.  It was really great to see Mom/Kelsey and Dad/Wayne out-and-about a bit.  They enjoyed some time in Rockford, MI, at Lacey's in-laws' lake house for Louis' (Lacey's son) 6yo birthday.  They also spent a long weekend just outside of Nashville with the Ritscher crew - Ellie and I/Lacey joined them with our kiddos and spouses, along with Marie (Dad/Wayne's sister) and her family, Harold (Wayne's Dad) and Mary, and Mary's family.

And so, for now, as we navigate the ups and downs of this leg of our journey, we reflect on Romans 12:12, "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."

THANK YOU all for your continued love and support.  We feel it, and we love you all right back!!

We continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers! Tell Kelsey I'll bring some deviled eggs and we'll scarf those babies down together! Seriously though, we'll pray for her appetite to improve and also to get liquids down as well. Must be frustrating for Wayne and we'll pray for his patience too. Hope to see you soon and help with anything we can. Love you all!
