Wayne & Kelsey Ritscher
How is already August 9th?! I blinked and we are already one week removed from Mom/Kelsey's appointment with radiology and 5 days from her appointment with oncology.
On 8/2, Mom/Kelsey went to Iowa City with Dad/Wayne and had a scan of her brain and an appointment with her Radiologist. The scan showed that the side of her brain that they operated on (right) looks really good. There is no additional growth to the portions of the tumor that they were not able to surgically remove on that side. The other side of her brain (left) showed some growth to that tumor. This tumor is very close to speech and word centers in the brain, so we'll be monitoring changes in those areas. Overall, though, no new tumors, which is good news and answered prayers. All that said, Mom/Kelsey won't do any additional radiation treatments for the foreseeable future.
On 8/5, they returned to Iowa City again to meet with Mom/Kelsey's Oncologist. The plan remains the same as what was previously discussed, but we have some more of the logistical details. Oral chemo started back up again last night (8/8). She will take it for one week and then not take anything for three weeks. Then, she'll take the oral chemo again for a week and nothing again for three weeks. Blood work will be a routine part of these cycles, and MRIs will occur about every 2 months/2 cycles. The duration of all of this will be determined by what the scans show and by how well Mom/Kelsey is handling the treatment.
Dad/Wayne shared that while Mom/Kelsey still struggles with her appetite, the nausea has gotten a lot better. This is good for her strength going into this next round of chemo. Thank you so much for all of your prayers - they are working!
And speaking of food...Dad/Wayne says they're doing okay with meals right now, but once fall harvest picks up, we might put the sign-up calendar back up. THANK YOU so much for everyone who has supported this!!
We really hope and pray that everyone is having a great summer. It's hard to believe it's almost time to head back to school...some of you already have! For now, we continue to pray for strength and peace and patience. We love you all!
