Thankfully, Eric and I are strong individuals and have a strong, healthy relationship 🥴
Today we had an appointment at Geisinger in Danville. Usually these appointments are just middle ground to make sure both babies are alive and well. I went to this appointment alone because I knew they were doing an anatomy scan and the kids wouldn't want to sit that long. And I need Eric on CHOP days, so he has to miss these.
For the good...
Baby B showed ZERO absent flow. I repeat, ZERO absent flow. Today her umbilical cord showed only forward flow. She checked multiple times and the flow was perfect. Praise the Lord! This has yet to happen, so it was amazing news.
For the bad...
Baby B is still very much too small. The discordance from last week to this week went from 34% to 37%. Baby A is measuring at 14 oz and Baby B is only at 9 oz. This doesnt seem like much on paper, but at this rate, nothing good will come of it. She HAS to gain and at a faster rate.
This appointment took longer than expected because they wanted me to meet with a doctor via a video call before I left. The doctor told me they couldn't confirm based on the data they had, but recommended that I get a second opinion from CHOP.
Based on some of the pictures (but not all, which is why they can't confirm) they think that Baby B could potentially have a hole in her heart. We did have an echo at 16 weeks that didn't show any abnormalities, but because her heart was so small then, Geisinger recommends that we have another done to rule out or confirm a defect.
So while we are thanking God that the flow has improved significantly, we are potentially looking at not one but two setbacks. The doctor told me not to stress about it (HA!) and to continue to take it one day at a time.
They want me to schedule a meeting with the NICU, because we will ultimately need it regardless, so that we have all the correct information in order to make the best informed decisions. If Baby B weighs 500 grams by the time they have to deliver, she has a 50% chance of surviving. And if she does survive, she has a 50% chance of suffering long term complications.
We need this girl to GAIN!
If she gains significantly, and her heart is okay, or manageable, the doctor thinks we could hold on until 32 or 34 weeks. But that is only possible if she gains faster.
Please keep praying that she catches up, and soon. And that her little heart will be okay 😭🩷💜
