I was able to come home on last Friday (5/23), and it felt amazing to be back with my girls, our animals, and my own bed. I had a very relaxing Memorial Day weekend filled with rest and quality time with Lily and Josie.

On Tuesday, I returned to Mayo Clinic for additional tests and consultations, including one about the possibility of a stem cell transplant. After reviewing my case, my doctors explained that due to the specific gene mutation I have and the way my leukemia has presented, I fall into a more favorable risk category. This means that chemotherapy is likely to be highly effective for me, and the risks associated with a stem cell transplant—such as graft-versus-host disease and other serious complications—outweigh the potential benefits in my situation.
Historically, patients with my particular mutation have responded very well to chemotherapy, and the likelihood of needing a transplant is slim. In fact, if one had to choose between chemo and a transplant, this is considered a great outcome.
The doctors will continue with chemotherapy, and the results from this week’s tests—including a bone marrow biopsy and PET scan—will help determine the number of cycles needed. My next round of chemo begins on June 3rd. I’m staying hopeful and praying for continued improvements in my test results.
I also want to say again and again how deeply grateful I am for all the love, prayers, meals, messages, and support you’ve shared with me and my family. Every kind word and thoughtful gesture has truly lifted my spirits and made this journey feel a little lighter. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
