Oakley Werley’s Miracle Heart
Wow, yesterday was hand down the longest day of my life. One day felt like an entire week. We prayed so hard that everything would go smoothly and all the moving parts would align. So so much goes into a transplant it’s truly a miracle. After 14 hours we finally got to see Oakley and we were just ecstatic with how amazing she looked! Her entire body, now pink! She went from O2 is the 70’s to 100% O2. Just incredible and all because another family said yes! I’ve been thinking about the donor family so much… amidst their pain and suffering they made the decision to give other children a second chance. It’s just pure love.
Around midnight the nurses let us know she took the blankets off Oakley because her temps were starting to rise but that it’s also normal to have higher temps after surgery. As the hour went on her temp just kept climbing and climbing and then her blood pressure got very low. They did an echo and said the heart was having a hard time acclimating and the cardiac output did not look good. She had 5 different nurses in her room drawing up different meds to try and get her numbers to look better and overall make her new heart happier. If the meds didn’t work they said she would possibly need to go back to the OR or be placed on ECMO (essentially like bypass so the body can just rest and the ecmo machine takes over the workload). To be completely honest I’ve never been more scared in my life…
We then sent out an update post and the prayers flooded heaven. Within an hour things began to improve! Temps kept slowly (very slowly) coming down. Her temp got to 105 last night and now it’s at 99.8! Thank you God!!!!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much your prayers mean to our family. We fully believe in the power of prayer and we know God is with Oakley every step of the way! From the absolute bottom of my heart thank you for all your love, support, and prayers.
This is a journey… not always the easiest one but God has been so faithful and the team her at TCH… unbelievable. I am just so grateful. Keep flooding heaven with your prayers!!! My beautiful little warrior… you’re a fighter! You WILL get through this Oaks! One beat at a time.

My second transplant last year- Oakley and I were admitted 2 days apart last February. So it’s been crazy to see how long it’s been. But both transplants have been their own unique experience. Recovery is hard- it was harder this past time bc I’m now a teen- vs when i was like
10. But just know that I’ve been
Praying for Oakley so much over the past like 10 months since I’ve seen ur account and story. I can’t wait for her to start healing and all the amazing things she will
Get to do with her new heart!
