The Violette Family (Tom & Kim)
Three decades. One beach. One day that changed everything. 🤍🙏🏼
The day this journey began was supposed to be just another day at a place our family has loved for more than three decades.
Mom, Dad, the “babies,” as Dad calls them, Kayleigh and Blake, and I were together in the Outer Banks, enjoying the beach our family has returned to year after year. A place filled with memories, laughter, family, and so much life.
And then, in what felt like the blink of an eye, everything changed.
By that evening, Dad was in the emergency room, in a journey none of us could have anticipated.
There are moments when I still find myself asking why.
Why my dad?
Why my children’s Pop?
Why my mom’s husband?
Why my aunt and uncle’s brother?
Why the best friend to so many?
Why this officer and deputy who has spent his entire career serving others and helping keep other families safe?
But then I am reminded of something our human hearts sometimes struggle to understand:
We do not have to understand God’s plan to trust that He has one.
Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us that His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways. What looks confusing from where we are standing is not confusing to God. He sees the beginning, the middle, and the end all at once.
And Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
That has taken on an entirely different meaning for our family.
Because the truth is, there have been moments when one of us simply hasn’t had enough faith for the day. Our tanks get low. We get tired. We get scared. We try to process medical information that sometimes feels impossible to comprehend.
But every single time one person’s tank gets low, someone else pours into it.
Sometimes it is Mom. Sometimes it is one of us girls. Sometimes it is a friend, a coworker, a family member, someone following this page, or even a stranger who felt led to reach out.
A prayer. A meal. A donation. A Scripture. A phone call. A message saying, “I’m still praying.”
And suddenly, there is enough faith for one more day.
I think that is one of the most beautiful ways God reminds us that we were never meant to carry our storms alone.
Galatians 6:2 tells us, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
That is exactly what so many of you have done for our family.
None of us knows what tomorrow holds. Not in our lives, and not in yours. We don't know what the next phone call, appointment, diagnosis, opportunity, heartbreak, or miracle may bring.
But we know the One who holds the pen.
And we are choosing to trust Him with the pages we cannot see yet.
So I want to challenge anyone reading this to do the same, whatever you may be walking through.
Maybe you’re fighting a battle that no one knows about.
Maybe you have prayed the same prayer so many times that you wonder if He still hears you.
He does.
Psalm 56:8 gives us one of the most beautiful pictures of God's tenderness: He keeps track of our sorrows and collects our tears. Not one tear falls unnoticed by Him.
And Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us that the Lord Himself goes before us. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Not in the hospital room.
Not while waiting for test results.
Not during the sleepless nights.
Not when our faith feels enormous.
And not when all we can manage is faith the size of a mustard seed.
We are processing a lot right now. We are learning. We are praying. We are feeling all of the very human emotions that come along with loving someone this deeply.
But one thing remains incredibly important to me:
We will continue standing together as God's people.
When someone gets tired, we will help carry them.
When someone's faith gets low, we will pour some of ours into their tank.
When someone cannot find the words to pray, we will pray for them.
And when God gives us another reason to praise Him, we will praise Him loudly.
Thank you for continuing to stand beside Dad and our entire family. Thank you for every prayer, every act of kindness, and every reminder that we are surrounded by people who believe with us.
We may not know what the next page says.
But we trust the Author.
And today, that is enough. 🤍🙏🏼
