The Violette Family (Tom & Kim)
Update : August 19th
Yesterday we met with Tom’s medical team at Johns Hopkins Sibley Memorial Hospital. It was a full day with a lot to take in, but the short version is this…. We have a plan, we have an incredible team, and we are full speed ahead. We know the next few months are going to be intense, but we are determined, hopeful, and ready to face what’s ahead together. Most importantly, we are trusting that God is already ahead of us and in every detail.
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 💕
That verse describes so beautifully what all of you have been doing for us. Jenna has been teaching our grandbabies something she calls “love in action.” Loving someone means more than saying it. It means showing up and putting that love into action. I love that what she has been teaching them lines up so beautifully with this Scripture. It’s something we’ve tried to live out in our own family throughout the years, and one of my greatest blessings is seeing it carried forward in my children and now my grandchildren.
And right now, we are on the receiving end of that love in action in a way we never could have imagined.🥹🥲
Every text, call, visit and prayer has strengthened us. I’ve tried to respond to every text, and if I’ve missed you, I’m sorry. Please know I have read every single one to Tom. So many have come at EXACTLY the moment we needed them, and your words have lifted both of our spirits more than you know.
The prayer chains, the meals, the visits, the cards, the donations, cutting the grass, taking out the trash, running an errand, checking in, and even the hugs. Especially the hugs. They mean more than you know. None of it is small to us. It’s the people who see something that needs doing and simply step in and do it. Every bit of it is love in action, and we are humbled by it more than we can say.
We are also learning to say yes when you offer to help. That isn’t always easy for us, but right now we know we need our people. God has certainly shown us just how many people He has placed around us.
And while you are praying for Tom and our family, please know we want to pray for you, too. We know we are not the only ones walking through a storm—so many of you are carrying your own burdens, your own battles, your own quiet struggles. If you or someone you love needs prayer, send it our way. We would be honored to stand in the gap for you and pray with you and for you. We may be walking through our own storm, but there is always room in our prayers for yours.
Through all of this, we see God’s thumbprint everywhere. In the prayers, the people He has placed in our path, the generosity, the kindness, and all of this love in action. Our world has been turned upside down, but God continues to remind us that He is here, He is working, and we are not walking through this alone.
The storm may be here, but so is God. And just as we have said from the beginning, “We will praise Him in this storm!!!! 🙏🏻 -Kim
