Wilder’s Progress (6/27/26)

Wilder is doing better today. His hemoglobin is back in a better range and they did an x-ray and the pneumatosis is already gone. They will still treat it with a course of antibiotics and will decide on Monday the best course of action for restarting feeds. They started him on nutrition through his IV rather than placing a PICC line. They’ll keep a close eye on his IV site to ensure it’s handling the nutrition running well. But they are hoping he only needs the nutrition short term and don’t want to place a PICC line unless absolutely necessary. 

The doctors also don’t know why Wilder is contracting these cases of pneumatosis and said that they plan to do some more research and digging to see if they can find a why for Wilder. This is typically a condition that develops for cardiac babies who have not yet had their heart repaired or right after surgery. Which isn’t the case for him. 

The best part is that he is acting more like himself today. He has had 4 different times where he was awake and more content than yesterday. He was making more eye contact and interacting with us more like he had been at home previous to getting sick. This has brought much comfort to our hearts.

-for continued healing Wilder’s body and wisdom for the doctors in treating him and discovering the cause 
-that his iv handles the nutrition well with no complications
