Asa is home!
Asa’s numbers were so high yesterday (sky rocketed in a good way the last 2 days) and were at a level safe enough to go home. He finished his big chemo and other antibiotics earlier this week except for the Rylaze injections. Because of the reaction he had in his leg, they tested his blood for the effectiveness of the Rylaze and a few hours after getting the injection found there was an "undetectable amount" found in his system. That means his antibodies were fighting the chemo and making it ineffective. The doctors have determined to stop those injections and most likely remove that from his treatment plan going forward.
While it’s nice he doesn’t have to get the shots, it’s not a good thing treatment-wise. There is no alternative chemo (that was the alternative to the one he had a reaction to), and doctors are not sure how that will affect his outcome in the long run as the studies on that drug are limited in kids with leukemia who also have the Philadelphia chromosome.

But for now, we are so grateful Asa gets to be home for just over a week. He will be re-admitted next Thursday, Feb. 12 for the next and final phase of Consolidation.
