Rough Stretch

Since coming home from the hospital on Saturday, it has been rough for us. Asa is having bad leg pain, nausea, and trouble sleeping since our routine altering hospital stay. Asa is struggling to walk and is constantly complaining about how his legs feel. He has woken up multiple times every night screaming in pain.

Today, we had an early morning clinic visit to begin the next phase of chemo (Induction 1B). This will be a 42 day phase and we are adding 2 new meds for our home routine. We had a long visit with a 5 hour infusion and did not leave until after 6pm. We were trained to give Asa a new chemo, via shot, that we will have to administer 3 times a week.

We are currently up to 9 medications a day, many of them 2 times a day, and are feeling slightly overwhelmed. We know that the medications are helping Asa heal but we struggle seeing him in pain and not acting like himself due to the medications. Ever since our last hospital stay, Asa has regressed with taking his medications.

Prayer requests:
1) That we can consistently and properly administer all of Asa's medications.
2) Asa will willingly take his medications.

Praises:
1) Medical team is great.
2) His eyes seem to continue to improve.

What you’re going through is incredibly hard, and yet every day, you show up with love, courage, and strength even when you feel like you're falling apart.
Your child feels your love in every moment. Just being there, holding their hand, means more than words can say. You are their anchor, their safe place, their hero.
It’s okay to be tired, scared, or overwhelmed. But don’t forget you are doing an amazing job in the hardest of circumstances.
You are not alone. One day, one breath at a time you’ve got this.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all: May God go before you to make the way clear and be your rear guard as you walk this journey; May He uphold you in the deepest times; May he give you His comfort and peace; May He sustain Asa and give him an understanding beyond his years and freedom from the pain; May He be your great comfort in this battle as only He can be; May He hold you close.

Wow. . . so sorry for all this pain for Asa and the exhausting and grueling schedule and labor it is for you all to administer the medicine, etc. and the emotional pain of seeing your son go through this. We love you all and pray for you and for the requests you have made. We pray for healing and great skill and wisdom for the medical team, and you both also (Austin & Julianna) as you have to persevere at night with Asa's pain and medicine's regime. We pray for strength and Spiritual power for the attaining of all steadfastness and perseverance & patience for you all - Colossians 1:11 and that in the midst of this trial and suffering, the Lord would give you a deep joy in Him, that He is sovereign, even though very very hard. Colossians 1:11-12. We cry out and lament for you with Psalm 10, 13, 42-43 - these Psalms helped me over the past 8 years dealing with the pain and mystery of losing Blake. Love, Ken (and Connie) Temple

Thank you for the update - it has to be so hard to watch Asa struggle- you are incredible parents and God is working out His good through all of this. I pray Asa will improve in his meds taking and God will continue to use the meds to heal his little body. I pray for wisdom and stamina for you two and that the Gideon, Josie and Aria experience God in ways through this that solidify their relationship with the Lord! I pray the same for you two and your extended family. I pray your church family and a watching world will be drawn closer to God through your situation and that God will be glorified in all! I love you all so much and know we continue to pray!!
